Nanny Care Screening
Process
All nannies come into our
office for an in person 2-3 hour interview with one
of our nanny councilors. The nanny fills out a 15 page
nanny application, which allows us to get to know them
and their employment history. After they have
completed the application, the nanny councilor will
go over her work history as well as interview them
personally. After the interview, our staff consults
with each other. Approximately 75% of the nannies who
make an application are rejected as unsuitable for
our agency.
A critical part of our screening process is reference
checking and work history. Our nanny councilor will
personally check and transcribe each reference. Certain
questions on our application are designed to ensure
that the nanny’s references are actual employer
references. It is very common for nannies to give phony
references. The reference checking process gives us
important information on how the nanny related to the
children and family she previously worked for. Upon
receiving all references, we will decide whether or
not the nanny will be excepted. We only work with nannies
with excellent work history and references. In addition,
we will only send you nannies who have worked with
your children's specific age group.
As soon as we are notified that you would like to hire
a particular nanny, we will have the nanny come in
a second time and register with Trustline. Trustline
is a government background check that is required by
law. It was established by the California Department
of Children's Services and uses fingerprints to conduct
a criminal background search, including a search of
the child abuse registry throughout California. The
FBI will conduct a national criminal records search
as well. Keep in mind that you will need to fill out
some paperwork as well, since you are her employer.
We can make an appointment to meet with you, so that
we can finish the Trustline paperwork and mail it in
immediately. In addition to using Trustline, we will
have another preliminary background check performed
so that you have peace of mind while waiting for the
Trustline results (these can take up to 3 months to
get back). This check will perform a residence history
check, 2 main county criminal checks, and a Department
of Motor Vehicles report. We can usually get you these
results within 3 days. In addition, if the nanny has
not had CPR & First Aid completed or updated, we
will pay for her to have that done. We also pay for
the nanny to be drug tested before hire. This test
will show if the nanny has any of the following in
his/her system: marijuana, cocaine, pcp, ecstasy, opiates
and amphetamines.
